The Pittsburgh Steelers' charter flight home from their game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing in Kansas City due to an issue with the oil pressure failing in one of the engines. The team was safe, but they were stranded in Kansas City overnight.
One Steelers player, defensive tackle Cam Heyward, decided to take a lighthearted approach to the situation. He tweeted a message to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, who were both in Kansas City at the time, asking for a ride home.
"Yo @taylorswift13 & @tkelce we might need a ride to Pittsburgh," Heyward tweeted.
Swift and Kelce have been rumored to be dating since earlier this year, and they were both in Kansas City on Sunday for the Chiefs' game against the Chicago Bears. Swift was even spotted cheering on Kelce from his private suite.
Heyward's tweet was clearly a joke, but it quickly went viral. Fans of both the Steelers and the Chiefs found the tweet to be hilarious, and many of them chimed in with their own suggestions for how the Steelers could get home.
Some fans suggested that the Steelers could take a bus or train to Pittsburgh. Others suggested that they could rent a car or van. But the most popular suggestion was that they should hitchhike with Swift and Kelce.
"Maybe Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce can give the Steelers a ride in their private jet," one fan tweeted.
"I'm sure Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce would be happy to give the Steelers a ride home," another fan tweeted. "After all, they're both from Pennsylvania."
The Steelers eventually found a way to get home to Pittsburgh, but Heyward's tweet was a reminder that even in the most difficult of situations, there is always room for humor.
