Abel Tesfaye wants to kill The Weeknd and be reborn!

The Weeknd never ceases to stir controversy or innovate with ideas that set him apart from others. So, what's The Weeknd's current story?

In detail, The Weeknd is contemplating killing off The Weeknd to resurrect Abel Tesfaye. But how? Let's find out.

In an interview with W magazine, where he graces the cover and promotes the series "The Idol" in which he co-stars with Lily Rose Depp, set to premiere on HBO on June 4, 2023, he revealed that his upcoming album might be the last album for The Weeknd.

"The upcoming album I'm working on might be the last album for The Weeknd," he said. "It's something I have to do. The Weeknd has said everything I can say." He continued, "I've reached a time and place where I'm ready to close the chapter of The Weeknd. But I will continue making music, maybe under the persona of Abel, or maybe as The Weeknd! But I still want to kill The Weeknd! And I will. I'm trying to shed this skin and be reborn."

As The Weeknd prepares for the release of his new television project, he had actually started adopting his artistic or stage name back in the days of House of Balloons in early 2010.

Balancing the theatrical persona of "The Weeknd" with his new character in the upcoming series posed numerous challenges. Speaking to W, he explained, "I had to take off the mask of The Weeknd and embody the character of Theodore and film scenes with Jocelyn (Lily Rose), then switch back to The Weeknd... Later, after the performance, I lost my voice, it just wouldn't come out. That has never happened before."

"I think I forgot how to sing because I was playing the character of Theodore, and he's a character who doesn't know how to sing... It was terrifying. As The Weeknd, I've never canceled a show, even when I was sick with the flu. I would perform and suffer through it. I would die on that stage. But there was something very complicated happening in my mind in that moment," he mentioned in the interview.

During the interview, Abel Tesfaye confirmed that he gave his best for "The Idol," emphasizing that he made sacrifices at the expense of his health and personal well-being to deliver his best performance. He described the project as magnificent based on his vision of it.
