Rihanna and Super Bowl halftime show make history, but not without controversy

The spectacular Super Bowl halftime show performed by Rihanna during the Super Bowl game between the "Kansas City Chiefs" and the "Philadelphia Eagles" is still making high waves and has made history.

With Rihanna's appearance on stage, she dominated the broadcast platforms and social media sites. Spotify revealed that the streaming rate on the platform increased by about 640% in the United States as soon as Rihanna's 13-minute performance began.

Also, one of her solo songs, "Better Have My Money," which did not gain wide fame like her other songs, received a fantastic increase in streaming, exceeding 2600% on Spotify in the United States.

The platform witnessed one of its highest increases in its history, but ironically, Rihanna will not receive any financial compensation for her performance at the Super Bowl.

After announcing that she could perform a concert in September, three of her songs have surpassed one billion streams each, including "Umbrella" and "We Found Love," which she performed during the Super Bowl, and "Love on the Brain," which was not part of her performance at the event.

But Rihanna wasn't the only one who made history at the event, as the sign language interpreter, Justina Miles, went viral on social media during Rihanna's performance.

Justina Miles makes history with Rihanna

Justina, who interacted with Rihanna's performance and translated it through sign language as well as her dance performance, has caused social media users to share videos of her full of movement and life.

Justina did not only participate in presenting Rihanna's show, but also participated during the opening in the song that is considered the national anthem for people with dark skin, "Lift Every Voice and Sing" performed by Cheryl Lee Ralph.

The American journalist Zoe Sallis shared a video of Rihanna's stunning performance and Justin's interpretation of the atmosphere, commenting: "Shoutout to Justina Miles! The first Black deaf woman to be featured signing in American Sign Language in the Super Bowl pre-show and half-time show."

One Twitter user described her as "amazing," while another praised the energy and vitality that Justina brought to the Super Bowl.

Who is Justina Miles?

Justina Miles is a deaf American sign language interpreter, a nursing student, and the head cheerleader at Bowie State University in Maryland. She was also an accomplished student at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, D.C. This is her first participation in the Super Bowl, but not her first participation in music events, as she has interpreted at several concerts across the United States.
